Buyer Map: Cali Resources

Prepared for Carlos Kelvin | Cali Resources | October 2026

As of Oct 8, 2026. Counts from published federal statistics on US businesses for 2022, described in the notes at the foot

This page maps the organizations whose IT teams retire computers, servers, phones and storage, first in San Diego County and then across California. It groups them by industry and size, because a site with 100 or more people is more likely to retire equipment in volume and to need proof that data was destroyed. A last section counts the partner groups your own site names beside companies, which are manufacturers, collectors and recyclers. It says nothing about which of them Cali Resources already works with.

San Diego County, sites by industry and size

Locations in San Diego County with 100 or more people working at that location, 2022.

Staff here is the people at the one location, not the whole employer. Where the federal file leaves a size class blank to protect a single employer, that class is counted as none, so a row can read low but never high. Industry names are our plain labels for the federal codes in the notes.

California, organizations by industry and size

Employers with at least one location in California, sized by everyone the whole organization employs, 2022.

An organization based elsewhere with one California location is counted here at its full national size. Its IT asset decisions may sit at a head office outside the state.

The partner groups your site names

Beside companies, your site names manufacturers, collectors and recyclers. These are the closest federal counts for each, every size, 2022.

The California column counts locations and the national column counts companies, so one company with three California sites is three in the first column and one in the second. Organizations with paid staff only. The scrap dealer row holds every kind of recyclable material dealer, metals and paper among them, not only electronics.

Who signs off

The roles that usually choose an IT asset disposition or e-waste partner. At a smaller site one person often holds several of them.

RoleWhy they care
IT director, infrastructure or end-user computing managerOwns the hardware refresh and the pile of retired laptops, servers and network gear it leaves.
IT asset managerKeeps the asset register, and needs every serial number accounted for at the end of its life.
Chief information security officer or security managerSigns off on how drives are wiped or shredded, and keeps the certificates for audit.
Compliance or privacy officerIn health care and finance, patient and customer data on old drives is their problem until it is destroyed.
Facilities or operations managerClears the storage rooms, books the pickups and handles the trailers at the dock.
Sustainability or ESG leadReports what was reused and recycled, and wants a partner whose numbers stand up in that report.
Procurement managerRuns the vendor review and the contract once the others agree.

What no public count reaches

Three questions this page cannot answer from a count, said in words rather than shown as numbers.

City, county and state agencies, public school districts and public universities. They retire a great deal of equipment and your own site names work with government, but they are public bodies, so they are not in a count of businesses. They are found agency by agency in the named version.

Who already has an ITAD contract. No public list says which employers have a disposition partner on contract and which still let retired equipment pile up, so every row counts each employer at its size.

When the next refresh lands. Hardware refresh cycles are set inside each IT team and are not published, so timing comes from the conversation, not from this page.

Three openings

Where the counts point.

Health care sites in San Diego County.

About 280 health care and social assistance sites in San Diego County have 100 or more staff, the most of any industry in the county table. Patient data on retired drives has to be destroyed under HIPAA, and a destruction certificate is the usual proof.

Professional and technical firms across California.

About 3,100 professional, scientific and technical firms with a California location have 100 or more staff. Most of their staff work on laptops that hold client files, so each retired machine carries client data.

Electronics manufacturers as partners.

California has about 2,500 computer and electronics manufacturing sites. Your site says you help manufacturers comply with state regulations. This is the closest federal count of electronics makers, chip and instrument makers included.

Denominators, definitions and sources

  1. San Diego County counts are establishments in the federal County Business Patterns for 2022, the same year as the firm counts below. An establishment is one location, sized by the paid employees at that location in the mid-March 2022 pay period. Size classes the file leaves blank are counted as none. The California locations in the partner table come from the same source's state file.
  2. California and United States counts are employer firms in the federal annual statistics of US businesses, 2022. A firm is every location under one owner, sized by paid employees across the whole firm. A firm with locations in several states is counted in each state it operates in.
  3. Industry codes: 62 health care and social assistance; 54 professional, scientific and technical services; 31 to 33 manufacturing; 52 finance and insurance; 51 information; 55 management of companies and enterprises; 42 wholesale trade; 61 educational services; 334 computer and electronic product manufacturing; 423930 recyclable material merchant wholesalers; 562920 materials recovery facilities.
  4. Organizations with no paid staff are not counted, nor are most government bodies; government-run hospitals are the exception in the county counts. Built from published federal statistics, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten, and figures below 10 are shown as under 10.

The named version of this page, the actual employers inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Ben Beattie, ben@enquirerconsulting.com.
